Can I change my workplace while my F-5 permanent residency application is under review?

I am currently working at a university in Korea under Professor (E-1) status and recently applied to change my status to F-5-11 permanent residency for outstanding talents. My application is still under review. However, before a decision is made on my F-5 application, I will be moving to another university for a new position. Since I have not yet received the result of my F-5 application, can I change my workplace to the new university? Since I have already submitted my F-5 application, do I still need to report the change of workplace under my current E-1 status, or should the workplace change be handled separately from the pending permanent residency application?

Since your F-5 application has not yet been approved, you are still required to comply with the obligations that apply to your current E-1 status, regardless of the pending permanent residency application. Submitting an F-5-11 application does not immediately change your status of stay to F-5. Until the application is approved, you remain in Korea under your existing E-1 status. Therefore, if your workplace changes while your F-5 application is being reviewed, you should separately complete any required procedures for a change or addition of workplace based on your current E-1 status. In addition, because the F-5-11 application may have been reviewed based on information concerning your existing employer, income, and employment status, it is advisable to inform immigration that your workplace has changed and that your F-5-11 application is currently under review. A change of workplace does not necessarily mean that the F-5 application will automatically be cancelled. However, an immigration officer may need to determine whether the change affects the eligibility requirements or documents submitted with your original application. You may therefore be asked to provide additional documents, such as a new certificate of employment, employment contract, or income-related documents. Accordingly, the recommended approach is to complete the required workplace change procedure under your current E-1 status, inform immigration that your F-5-11 application is currently under review when reporting the change, and confirm whether any additional documents need to be submitted for your pending F-5 application.
