As a fellow researcher who came from a very different cultural background and chose to challenge herself in a country where neither the language nor the culture was familiar, I want to share one simple message: If I could do it, so can you. Having completed my entire academic journey in Korea, from my undergraduate studies all the way to earning my PhD, and now continuing my career in the industry, I know firsthand that this path is far from easy. To all my fellow international researchers, I sincerely wish you nothing but success. I am proud of each and every one of you for pursuing your ambitions, finding your place in your respective fields, and having the courage to build a life and career far from home. And to those who sometimes feel overwhelmed, question their abilities, or struggle with imposter syndrome, please remember that you are not alone. We have all experienced moments of doubt and uncertainty. Sometimes, you have to become comfortable with being uncomfortable before you can truly begin to grow. Keep doing your best, even when progress feels slow. Be open to learning, adapting, and embracing the Korean culture around you, whether you are working in a university laboratory, a research institute, or the industry. Take the time to understand the people, the environment, and the ways of working. You may not figure everything out immediately, and that is perfectly fine. With time, patience, and perseverance, things will gradually become more familiar, and each day will feel a little easier. Living, studying, and conducting research in a foreign country will always come with its own challenges. But those experiences, both the difficult and the rewarding ones, are what shape your journey and make your story uniquely yours. Be proud of how far you have come, even if you are not yet where you want to be. Never underestimate the courage it took to start this journey or the strength it takes to keep going. And above all, remember: If others have found their way, you can find yours too. Keep going, keep growing, and believe in yourself. :)

Thank you for such a heartfelt post. Having spent my own graduate years abroad, where both the language and culture were unfamiliar, I had many moments of doubting myself, so your reminder that "you are not alone" really stayed with me. The path you have built in Korea, from your undergraduate studies to your doctoral degree and now into industry, is truly inspiring, and I am sure your words will give strength to many who are on that journey right now. I hope you will keep sharing your experiences with us here on KoLab!
