The quietest place in South Korea wasn’t a temple in the mountains. It was my Lab. As a Master’s student, I am not just a member of my research lab. I am the research lab. Oh, really? Yes, of course, I am the only student at the moment. Seriously, you are thinking right! There are no seniors to pass down old lab reports, no peers to complain with over instant tteokbokki, and no one to share the silence when life is quiet. Did you think the same? Me too in the beginning but then, then what? Don’t be shocked! Let me explain. The lack of companionship that I was afraid of, became my partner in work and my loneliness became my independence. But how? Don’t worry, I’m gonna explain that. There is no one to help, but there is no one disturb too! There is no one to talk but there is no one to bother too! There is always quietness but there is no noise for distraction too! No one here to be friend but no one here to be enemy too! Yes, just changing the mindset to see a glass half empty to a glass half filled, may make your life better. Now I work, spend time and do what I have to and want to, and I feel, my learning is much improved and self-experience based. I’d say to newcomers, try to find the blessing in disguise in your life.

Sometimes, being alone in the lab teaches you more than being part of a big team. Every challenge builds strength and independence.
