When preparing or signing an employment contract, essential items that must be checked and included are wages, prescribed working hours (including break times), holidays (such as weekly rest days and public holidays), and annual paid leave. Additional beneficial items may include educational and professional training support, social insurance coverage, and various employee welfare benefits. add notice : When signing a job contract in South Korea, you must ensure it aligns with the strict protections laid out by the Ministry of Employment and Labor (고용노동부) under the Labor Standards Act (근로기준법). Employers are legally required to provide you with a written copy of your contract.

Wages, working hours, leave, duties, contract period, 4 major insurances and severance pay are clearly written before signing.

It must clearly be mentioned that when and how many holidays are allowed, how many unpaid and paid leaves will be there, and if there are any benefits like health related benefits offered for the employee and his or her family members.

I’d suggest checking the salary breakdown, payment date, working hours, overtime arrangements, and paid leave first. It’s also helpful to clarify insurance coverage, severance eligibility, and the conditions for probation, contract renewal, and termination. For bonuses, ask whether they are guaranteed or depend on performance. For research positions, I’d also ask about publication and intellectual property policies, plus support for conferences and training. Make sure any agreed benefits are confirmed in writing, and ask for clarification of any wording you don’t understand before signing.

Before signing a job contract in Korea, always check the salary, working hours, annual leave, overtime pay, insurance, and severance pay. Also, clarify bonuses, training support, conference funding, and career development opportunities. Most importantly, get all promised benefits in writing rather than relying on verbal agreements.
