After five years as an assistant professor in South Korea, I wish I had known how much learning Korean would help me, both at work and in everyday life. I also wish I had understood academic expectations and communication styles earlier. Making a supportive network and making time for life outside the lab are just as important as working hard.

Absolutely agree! Learning Korean and understanding the academic culture can make a huge difference.

Agree, most of the foreign researchers forget to balance work life and unwilling to communicate with the outside world except academics. We should embrace the culture, also the people around it, it would help us build a smooth life other than only works.
